Green roofs, green streets,
rainwater gardens, and bioswales can absorb storm water runoff, while also cooling city blocks suffering from the urban heat - island effect during hot summers.
But Homestead Economics has a neat video of
their rainwater garden system, which collects stormwater runoff from a long dirt driveway, diverts it to carefully designed grow beds surrounded by a berm, and then collects any excess water in a retention pond for future irrigation.

The Geo 6 is fed by 600 meters of 40 mm horizontal collectors — half buried in a field, half buried in tight coils strategically located in the

According to the Brooklyn Botanic
Garden, the benefits of harvested
rainwater include that it typically has fewer contaminants, it is kept at a luke warm temperature and thus doesn't shock plant roots as tap water can, and it also is not treated with chlorine, a chemical which may destroy soil microbes and inhibit plant growth.

rainwater collection, greywater recycling, reuse of secondhand materials, habitat restoration, and so much more.
