So we're really rather glad that Frank Miller, otherwise known in the screenwriting world for the «Robocop» sequels and for gifting other screenwriters with comic book fodder in «Elektra,» «Sin City,» «300» and his gritty take on Batman, chose «The Spirit» as his solo directorial debut (he's credited as co-director with Robert Rodriguez on «Sin City» but we believe that even less now having seen what he did when left to his own devices).
Hopefully, if this garners a sequel, we will see more of the sure - footed Lone Ranger that many fans know and love (in this world of outlandishly colorful characters, the milquetoast do - gooder the film is named for barely registers), rather than the «shakiest gun in the West» one that needs Tonto or Silver to save his bacon every 15 minutes.

For what it's worth as regards The Incredible Hulk, I'll restate the fact that I've never been one to hop on the anti - sequel / anti-remake bandwagon (I'd rather see more double - bills of films like Capote and Infamous than «original» films lacking in soul or depth), and despite his many offenses (most of them relative in my book), nor will I take part in the seemingly mandatory pastime of kicking M. Night Shyamalan when he's down.
I look forward to the day when we get to see Bond just go on an assignment that only exists for one film rather than make every movie a sequel to the previous installment to appease grumpy critics and audiences who never liked the first 50 years of the franchise in the first place.
