Following a week of political scandal it was hardly surprising to see the collective poll
ratings of the party leaders fall to their lowest levels ever recorded.
Not exact matches
Trudeau's Liberal
Party under a former
leader swept to power in 1993 and won three subsequent elections — all
of them while interest
rates were stable or falling and the economy was relatively strong.
Her approval
ratings are also now the highest
of any
party leader across the UK, with even many English voters saying they would back her
party next month given the chance.

of last month Ed Miliband had net personal
ratings of -46 % according to YouGov with 68 %
of voters saying he is «doing badly» as
leader of the Labour
party.
So one needs some knowledge
of the overall number
of potential voters to interpret
party leader ratings correctly.

ratings have nosedived such that she is not only less popular than her controversial UK counterpart, Jeremy Corbyn, but also has displaced the Liberal Democrat
leader, Willie Rennie, as the least popular
of the main Scottish
party leaders.
In a nutshell, Labour lead UKIP by 29 points in Doncaster North, not twelve; Miliband leads Cameron as best PM by 14 points, not one point; Miliband's constituents would rather see him as PM than Cameron; they give him the highest
ratings of the four main
party leaders, not the third highest; and they trust Miliband and Balls more on the economy than Cameron and Osborne, not the reverse.
Labour's travails can not be attributed solely to Corbyn's leadership performance; but as John Curtice has pointed out: «it can often be difficult to disentangle cause and effect in the relationship between a
party's overall standing and the
rating of its
leader».

Ed Miliband's
ratings are also unchanged this month, with just over a third (36 %) satisfied with the way he is doing his job as
leader of the Labour
party and two in five (43 %) dissatisfied, his net score
of minus 7 being better than Cameron's or Clegg's.
Furthermore, 43 per cent said he is the most competent
party leader, narrowly beating Mr Brown's approval
rating of 21 per cent.

«Identifiers» who did not
rate their own
party leader highly were more likely than other «identifiers» to desert the
party of their primary loyalty.
