Why is
raw cacao so good for you?
I also didn't have
raw cacao so I used regular cocoa powder.
I (attempted) these energy bites with no food processor and
no raw cacao so they didn't turn out looking this nice but they still taste pretty great!
The sweet potatoes do have to be orange and unsweetened cocoa powder is different to
raw cacao so you would have needed about triple the amount listed in the recipe to get the right flavour!

so much for breakfast, mixing a few spoonfuls of it with banana slices, frozen raspberries,

The beauty of these chocolates really lies in the rich authentic taste of the
raw cacao powder and the
cacao butter, both just have such deep flavours that are
so unlike any of the processed cocoa you buy.
Raw cacao actually ends up being cheaper than cocoa as you use
so much less of it.
Raw cacao is the unprocessed form
so it is much better for you and can easily be bought from places like Amazon if you can't find it in a local store.
So feel free to use either a
raw cacao powder (arguably more nutritional perks here) or a Dutch - processed alkaline cocoa (our favorite if it's Valrhona).

so you can add it to your diet with no guilt, just good old chocolatey deliciousness.
So I tried this recipe with cocoa powder instead of

Raw cacao nibs are the less processed version of chocolate with no unhealthy additives,
so they preserve all the nutrients of the natural
cacao bean.
Fab flavour combos, orange white choc and cranberry always go great together — I also used
raw honey in place of agave as I believe its a more natural, unrefined sweetner (agave isnt as innocent as you might think — read up about it) As for those of you who wanted to know about the white choc chips, well I avoid all dairy and refined sugars
so I simply made my own, its dead easy — simply combine pure
raw cacao butter (gently melted) with a pinch of celtic salt, a little extract of vanilla and some
raw cashew butter, then freeze in a suitable container before breaking into chunks!!!!! yummy You can make dark chocolate chips even easier by melting pure coconut oil and stirring in a little vanilla, honey and
raw cacao powder before freezing!!!
So, I came up with this new combo and, instead of regular cocoa powder, I used
raw cacao powder.
One thing to keep in mind is that
cacao beans have a high phytic acid content which is partly removed via processing...
so while
raw cacao is much higher in beneficial flavonols (as detailed below), in its
raw form it may inhibit mineral absorption.
The more
raw form your
cacao is, the more intensified these benefits will be
so look out for highly processed forms (more on this shortly).
Raw cacao has a more intense flavor than the processed cocoa powder,
so even if it's a little more expensive than this one, it sure worthsevery penny.
This over processing has been known to reduce many of the benefits of the cocoa bean,
so you would need to consume a lot more to get the same affects you could have from smaller quantities of
raw cacao and of course would be unlikely to reduce your sugar cravings if it already contains sugar.
Most of the other recipes I found for making
raw chocolate used
cacao butter instead, which may well create a slightly superior chocolate base and be less crumbly (I found the coconut butter does make it ever
so slightly crumbly).
You could easily replace this with whatever bar of baking chocolate you like (preferably sugar free for keto / low carb), but there are
SO many additional health benefits using
raw organic fair trade
cacao.
Some of my family do not like nuts in their brownies
so I added some
raw cacao nibs to the tops instead of the nuts for crunch.

If you are on a tight budget you could substitute non-
raw cocoa powder from your local grocery store, but this
raw cacao is the good stuff
so use it if you can.

So how is
raw cacao different, exactly?
So, «
cacao» basically refers to the
raw form of chocolate.
These are incredible on their own, but then I had an idea to try making a
raw WHITE chocolate ganache to go on top,
so I threw some ingredients in the Vitamix —
cacao butter, coconut oil, soaked cashews, agave, lucuma, and some other stuff — to see what would come out.
It has a sweet nutty caramel flavour
so it goes well with
raw cacao powder and in smoothies.
Now, I don't usually like labeling foods good and bad and of course what's good for one person could be
so not good for another — dark chocolate (or
raw cacao, it's main ingredient) is considered a superfood, but it's not a superfood for you if you're allergic.
The essence of chocolate in its purest form,
raw cacao lends a distinct, rich flavor to baked goods, snacks, trail mixes and
so on.
