One of the articles I enjoyed
reading through was «Give Your Baby the Best Start: Creating a
Healthy Home for Your
Child», although I suggest
reading Heather Dunham's article series on Baby Essentials That Aren't, which starts with cribs, for a great starting point if you are expecting or
have an infant.
Imagine my surprise when, after
reading the entirety of
Healthy Sleep Habits Happy
Child, I felt that we needed to escalate to Dr. Weissbluth's other book, more specifically addressing fussy babies, and cracking it open to learn that I
had read every single word of advice already.
I too is a mother of 2 g6pd babies, 2 yr old @ 3mos old, it was horrible at first but
reading blogs and doing my own research assured me that my boys can
have a
healthy life and just be as normal
children.
Depressed mothers are often overwhelmed in the parenting role,
have difficulty
reading infant cues, struggle to meet the social and emotional needs of their
children, and are less tolerant of
child misbehaviour.7 Offspring of depressed mothers, particularly if they are exposed to depression in the first year of life, are more likely to be poorly attached to their caregivers, experience emotional and behavioural dysregulation,
have difficulty with attention and memory, and are at greater risk for psychiatric disorders throughout childhood.8 Home visiting focuses on fostering
healthy child development by improving parenting and maternal functioning.
We
'd read about it in the context of adoption and foster care, which we
'd considered, and it seemed like a great way to raise
healthy, confident
children.
I just started
reading Lunch Lessons: Changing the Way We Feed Our
Children, and so far the authors
have some great suggestions for
healthy lunches, but more interestingly, they
have some intriguing ideas about how we could be changing the lunches that kids are fed in school.

Even though the last miscarriage was before the birth of my now 7 - year - old son,
reading your story really reminded me of how much healing I
've received from that time of loss and hopelessness, I definitely think
children feel even more precious, if that's possible, when
having them live to a
healthy birth isn't a given.
