No God wrote any bible as the bible is simply a book of compiled
stories written by people and the bible was actually written 300 years after the birth of Jesus (if he was) and the reality is most American ministers, priest, etc could have never
read the first bible since it was written in Greek and changed
over, and
over, and
over again.
I actually enjoy
reading the bible, I enjoy listening to my religious leaders explain how different religious leaders have interpreted different sections of the bible
over the years and what
stories of morality etc. we can gleam from the Bible.
Because the author is outside of the
story, she can
read over an event and then go back to the preceding chapters and drop in clues or accentuate the pathos of the characters.
So, what happens as people
read these
stories over and
over, the conversation simply never comes up... and if someone challenges their faith... and they go to the Bible to look for answers, they are simply never going to find a trace of what I'm trying to say here in the sacred books.
I've
read this
story and many of you guys posts
over the past few months on the Beliefs
stories and keep hearing these same statements when discussing Christians: «pushed» and «shoved down our throats».
I shouldn't have been so surprised to recognize God when I gloated
over sleeping children or nursed through cluster feeds or washed soiled sheets in the middle of the night or clapped until my fingers tingled
over Christmas carols in school gyms or
read aloud childish
stories printed on construction paper or welcomed friends for sleepovers.
Every morning, I
read the
stories of Holy Week, all
over again, and every year, on this day, I reach that line: «Jesus knew that the time had come to leave this world to go to the Father.
Maybe even the most ardent right wing religious zealots can
read this
story and finally let it seep into their brains that there is no Jesus, there is no Lord watching
over you and protecting you, and there is no devil... there is only human nature and some of it is good and some of it is bad.
It is so disgusting to
read these kinds of
stories over and
over again.
And since the Bible is God's
story, concerned primarily with who God is, we will find that
over time, as we
read, live, and breathe in the
story of Scripture, we will become ever more like God as revealed in Jesus Christ.
