and how the awareness of one's mortality, of the certainty of death, of «death's decision» enhances earnestness in life.
articles like this are kind of like a mirror,
and when
readers don't like what they see of themselves, they project it
on the
author.
To be sure, if the
reader shares at all the
author's experience, he will find that clear light is shed
on the mature convictions of Judaism
and Christianity by such a study of their origins
and growth.
There is only one way to interpret literature, that is to base our interpretation
on the context
and the plain meaning of the words that the
author chose to convey his thoughts to the
reader.
The bulk of academic writing in my discipline is not really writing but a collection of marks
on paper put down in response to similar marks put down in response to other marks put down in response to... The
authors of these texts do not have a conception of writing as an art, or of the need for the imagery, inflection,
and rhythm that hold open the mind of the
