read — he really nails the essential, fundamental aspects of commercial fiction — and resorts back to his idealistic UnTruths about Resistance:

books from successful authors, and I'm still scratching my head over some aspects of the whole «author gig.»
I've also
read dozens of
books on
writing craft and dozens more
books on
book marketing.
I haven't
read Story Engineering, but since I'm always curious to check out
writing craft books, I will give it a
read!
The two
books I
wrote before
reading that
craft book were a mess.
I think that, all too often, aspiring authors overlook
craft books, thinking that it's more worthwhile to
read within your genre and soak up the style and form of someone else's
writing.
I also
read two
craft books (
Write Your Novel In A Month and The Story Equation) and did a course, and scored some notes from another course off a friend; so as far as my yearly goal to «keep learning» went, I did a cracking job too.
In that same vein, Coyne's new
book is one of the best
books on
writing craft I've ever
read.
Sometimes it's easier to figure out the mechanics behind
writing by
reading books on the
writing craft.
It's been a long haul of
reading books on the
writing craft, attending workshops, and listening to the criticisms of others.
Now's the time to
read a few
books by the
writing «gurus» (here's an excellent list), and some of the great
craft - of -
writing posts by The Kill Zone's contributors in the TKZ Library (in the sidebar on the right), and maybe join a critique group (in - person or online) and / or attend some
writing workshops.
On her website, she
writes about the
craft of
writing, about
books she enjoys
reading, and she conducts interviews with favorite British authors.
And all of the
writing craft books I am
reading are in English, as are the
writing blogs.
I'm also
reading — slowly — a couple of
writing craft books, which I'll probably talk about on this blog at a later date.
But if you never open a
book on your
craft, or
read other
books in your genre, how can you hope to know what's good
writing and what isn't?

Read some highly regarded, reader - friendly
craft - of -
writing books.
I know this not only through
reading her
book, but also by visiting her blog, The Art and
Craft of
Writing Creatively, where she provides expert advice.
I
write children's
books and want to do school events but try to imagine offering a
craft to 100 kids, so I think no
craft, but then I don't know what else they might like besides me
reading my
book.

Between
writing my current story, which I formally began in August last year, and moving on from the previous, I spent time taking walks under the trees, drawing trees (which is a hobby of mine),
reading lots of
craft books to give myself a new angle.
The costs of self - publishing might sometimes seem difficult to keep track of, but as long as you're
writing work of a good standard (
read a few
writing craft books), you only really need to worry about that Holy Trinity: editing, cover design and formatting.
