The politicization of climate

in part to having Gore as the public face for so long) is one of the primary reasons why there is so great public doubt even over the basics (leaving out areas like sensitivity where there are large and

uncertainties).
I may be wrong, but It appears to me that her motive is to expose IPCC claims of overconfidence
in a
science, which she feels is still loaded with too much
uncertainty to be able to make any
real claims regarding the past or projections for the future, IOW to act as sort of a «BS filter».

N.B. Even if Schmidt is right
in his characterisation of the skeptics, that does not imply that the
science must be settled, simply because there are areas of
real uncertainty in climate
science, but they may not be the issues on which he percieves skeptics generally attack.
There are many
uncertainties in the
science and the occasional finding that pokes holes
in details, but claims that warming stopped
in year X, there is an ice age imminent, etc. are given undue prominence when there is no
real evidence for this sort of position, just as there is no
real evidence that tobacco isn't a health hazard, or HIV doesn't cause AIDS.
Anthropogenic Climate Change hasn't qualified for years; the
science is settled, the effect is
real, and the only
uncertainty among the folks who actually know their shit is whether we're
in for a bad ride or a downright catastrophic one.
