And then for a third thing, I think content strategy, which we kind of touched on at the very, very beginning — content strategy is something that a lot of
authors don't have a lot of knowledge or experience
about, but I think is
really important for long - term
platform building.
But, many
authors are confused
about what this
really means, what does it entail, and even if you do understand, how do you build an
author platform?

Since I know a lot
about writing and painting, the fickle worlds of publishing and fine art, and have gotten pretty damn good at internet marketing,
platform building, and online sales, it's
really easy for me to help struggling artists and
authors figure out what their problems are and get them earning enough money to quit their jobs and focus on being creative geniuses that change the world.
Katrina, considering the number of books being published each year, there are two things every writer should be concerned
about if they want a large audience: 1) putting in the time to build your
author platform, and 2) producing a book that
really stands out from the crowd in terms of quality.
So when an
author sits down to make this difficult decision [of where to publish their book], they have to weigh the pros and cons of that decision... I think it's very disruptive to an
author's career to go exclusive anywhere, because it
really takes years for an
author to establish a readership and
platform... One of the problems with exclusivity is, it forces
authors to make this artificially imposed either - or situation
about their distribution.
I talked
about all the different ways to
really build a strong
author platform, but it does take time.
In addition to teaching and writing
about platform, I'm growing my own, so I empathize with the glazed - over looks I sometimes get from
authors who ask me questions like, «Do I
really have to do all of this if I want to be a published
author?»

really been trying learn more
about and this was very helpful.

I'm thinking
about pulling the plug, since I don't
really want to offer book marketing services unless they will earn a return every time, and that's hardly possible without building up a long term
author platform.
