TOKYO, Aug 28 (Reuters)- Honda Motor Co is
recalling about 63,200
vehicles due to a defect in driver - side air bags made by Takata Corp, the latest in a series of air bag
recalls across the industry that have
affected nearly 16 million
vehicles to date.
Based on similar circumstances involving
vehicle manufacturer
recalls, our assessment is that Honda's liability should not materially
affect its shareholders.
Of note: This
recall affects the carry handle portion of the infant car seat only and does not
affect the performance of the infant car seat when used as a child restraint in a motor
vehicle.
If the automaker
recalls every
affected vehicle by the end of 2016, more than 130 additional early deaths may be avoided.
General Motors is also conducting an extremely small
recall of only five
affected cars, including the 2013 - 2014 Cadillac XTS and the 2014 Chevrolet Impala because the
vehicles may have left the factory with the sensing and diagnostic module set to manufacturing mode.
The reports follow Friday's announcement of a new
recall affecting around 5 million
vehicles.
GM just announced an additional four
recalls affecting another 2.5 million
vehicles.
A VW spokesman confirmed for Cars.com, however, that this
recall does not pertain to the roughly half - million
affected vehicles in the U.S.

affected around 778,000 Toyota
vehicles, while the tally for BMW and Nissan stands at 573,935 units and 437,712 units, respectively.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced that manufacturers filed more than 650 safety
recalls,
affecting over 17.8 million
vehicles, child seats and
vehicle equipment, during calendar year 2012.
Honda, so far, accounts for a bulk of the
recall with over 2.8 million
vehicles affected, including model - year 2001 - 2007 Accord

While GM hopes to target owners of Toyota and Lexus
vehicles affected by the current rash of
recalls, Ford's program is open to any owner of a Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Honda, and Acura
vehicle, so long as it was manufactured in or after 1995.
