This exhibition both celebrates
recent gifts from Gordon W. Bailey and demonstrates how the medium
of wood inspires a wide range
of creative mastery among contemporary self - taught
artists.
To celebrate the
recent gift of the painting One (1970), by American
artist Sam Gilliam (b. 1933), the Block Museum will present a focused exhibition
of works by
artists engaged with abstraction and the expansion
of painting in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s.

In addition to the many
recent acquisitions to the Marieluise Hessel Collection including new works by Rachel Rose, Philippe Parreno, Hito Steyerl, and Jutta Koether, among others, in 2012, CCS Bard acquired the Colin de Land, American Fine Arts, Co. and Pat Hearn Gallery Archives (for which a major exhibition is planned for 2017), and in 2013 received the
gift of the John Hanhardt Archive, a unique history
of exhibitions and
artists working with the moving image over the past fifty years (from Nam June Paik to Cory Arcangel).
The exhibition, which honors
recent gifts to the collection by the
Artist Proof Studio (APS) in Johannesburg, APS Director and University
of Johannesburg Associate Professor Kim Berman, APS Manager
of Educational Programs Lucas Nkgweng, and Dr. Pamela Allara, Brandeis University Associate Professor Emerita
of Contemporary Art, will be on view in the Robert and Claire Freedman Lober Viewing Alcove from September 19 through December 17, 2017.
Taken together, this exhibition features more than fifty works by Christo, and also highlights
recent gifts from The David C. Copley Foundation and from the
artist himself, in recognition
of Copley's patronage and support over the years.
Recent major donations have included the 2002
gift of 86 masterpieces
of contemporary American art by eminent
artists like Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol.
To highlight this remarkable
gift and Conner's role as one
of America's preeminent multidisciplinary
artists, this collection
of lithographs will be displayed with two
recent digital restorations
of Conner's films THREE SCREEN RAY and A MOVIE.
It is occasioned by the
artist William Wegman's extraordinary
recent gift to the Museum
of 174 short videos that he made between 1970 and 1999 — his entire career in this medium.
This presents
recent paintings revealing new directions in the
artist's work, alongside seven works from O'Donoghue's celebrated Passion series, and marks the permanent loan by the American Ireland Fund to the Museum
of all 22 works in the series, together with 17 further works, the
gift of an anonymous American collector.
Other
gifts include Jack Whitten's 2010 monumental painting Port au Prince: A Painting
of Hope and Spirit for the Haitian People and
recent works by emerging contemporary African American
artists, such as Rashid Johnson, Titus Kaphar, and Charles McGill.
Works
of art from the permanent collection
of the Neuberger Museum
of Art — including
recent gifts from the estate
of Mr. Neuberger — by the
artists who participated in the «Birthday Books» will also be on view, some for the first time.
These
recent gifts have introduced new
artists to the collection and expanded upon existing bodies
of work by incorporating different types
of objects or broadening the scope
of years represented.
For his
recent solo show earlier this year at Pippy Houldsworth, Japanese
artist Yuken Teruya (previously) transformed the waste products
of consumerism — luxury
gift bags — into cut paper trees that rise like fragile silhouettes from inside each bag.

of American Art announces a series
of new acquisitions
of works by
artist Andy Warhol that includes two
gifts and a
recent purchase.
The late Joseph F. McCrindle's
recent gift to the National Gallery
of Art comprises a rich selection
of 71 drawings, encompassing a broad range
of works by European and American
artists from five centuries.

Featuring more than 55 artworks, the exhibition includes John Singer Sargent's masterpiece Gassed, which has never traveled to New York before; Childe Hassam's The Fourth
of July, 1916, a
recent gift from Chairman Emeritus Richard Gilder; and powerful works by George Bellows, Georgia O'Keeffe, Horace Pippin, and Claggett Wilson, among other American
artists.
The canvas is accompanied by a selection
of prints and drawings featuring images
of Rockport's fishing industry, all
recent gifts from the estate
of Gifford Beal made through the efforts
of Kraushaar Galleries, which gave the
artist his first solo exhibition in 1920 and thereafter served as his dealer for the remainder
of his career.
A pioneer
of Conceptual Art and author
of the renowned Inside the White Cube, Brian O'Doherty / Patrick Ireland's enduring obsession with themes
of language, perception and identity are represented by a selection
of his works from the IMMA Collection dating from 1954 onwards and include a major new Rope Drawing which is a
recent gift to IMMA by the
artist, entitled: The doors to good and evil and the windows to heaven - Christina's World, Rope Drawing No # 124, 2015.
Still's resolute refusal to «explain» his work, for example, has frequently been interpreted as uncommunicativeness, although it could be argued that no other
artist in
recent times has been more concerned about communication; one need only look at Still's
recent and important
gift of 28 paintings, spanning 40 years
of his career, to the newly redesignated San Francisco Museum
of Modern Art.
Illuminating unknown aspects
of the ground breaking
artist's practice, Morris Louis: Unveiled presents more than 25 works, including several large - scale paintings and a number
of rarely seen drawings that comprise a
recent gift to the BMA from the
artist's widow's estate.
