BRUSSELS (Reuters)- The European Union on Wednesday urged the Romanian parliament to reconsider
recent judicial reforms, which critics say weaken judicial independence.

An administration official told the Times Union on Monday that panel appointees of the executive and
judicial branch indicated at their meeting last week that they have soured on the idea of a raise for two reasons: because only two lawmakers have formally stated their case to the commission this year, and because ethics
reforms approved this year have been lambasted as not properly addressing
recent corruption.
