I haven't tested
this recipe using date paste yet, but I would guess you could replace the dates with 1 cup of date paste with similar results.
It was my first
recipe using dates, but I will definitely avoid putting un-pitted dates in the blender in the future!

use regular
dates but you may have to soak them first to soften them as they need to be really soft and moist for this
recipe!
You could make the
recipe in a smaller quantity and
use the existing
dates which you have already blended.

dates are the best as they're much sweeter and stickier so make cooking a lot easier — these are what I
use in all my
recipes and you may find if you
use normal
dates that the
recipe doesn't work as well.

Sadly this
recipe really needs to be done
using a food processor otherwise the
dates and sweet potato mixture won't form into a smooth and creamy mixture.

used coconut syrup, which I bought for one of your other
recipes and seeing as it only required a little almond butter, I made my own.
I have
used dried prune in some other
recipes asking for
dates, they worked fine for me.

recipes as they are super sweet and easy to cook with but you could try
using prunes or dried figs instead.
i had the amount of
dates you
used, but when i made these two
recipes, the
date flavor was very overpowering and i could barely taste any strong brownie - like flavors or even the sweet potato (for this one!).
I couldn't find sunflower seeds, so just went with the
recipe as posted (substituted some of more expensive ingredients — honey for maple syrup, different type of
date), but will
use suggestion of upping oats next time to see how it goes.
Hi Kate, this is one of the pricier
recipes becuase of the
dates, you could try
using normal
dates, but I just find medjool's are extra sumptuously sweet and juicy so just work best in the
recipe.
I understand if it doesn't work for you though in my
recipes I often
use it for the specific sweetness or stickiness, so sometimes nut butters (almond, cashew or tahini) can work as a substitute or other oils (olive) or other sticky beauties (
dates, figs etc).
I made these exactly as the
recipe, they came out great but for some reason are not sweet at all... Taste more savory / bland like crackers would... And yes I did
use medjool
dates
I didn't
use dates... as mentioned all was the same in your
recipe except the maple syrup and peanut butter.
Hi Karla, I would recommend
using a strong magimix for things like nut butters and any
recipes containing
dates as these can be quite tough on the food processor.
I made
date and oat bars yesterday, the
recipe stated
use 100g sunflower seeds and I'm not sure if I
used the correct sunflower seeds and the
recipe didn't say blend them in the mixer so i didn't and they are now big and impossible to chew.

recipe: 1/2 Cup Stevia Baking Blend (I
used NuNaturals Fiber Blend brand) 1/2 Cup High Quality Cocoa Powder 1 1/4 Cup Organic Whole Wheat Flour 1 Cup Chopped
Dates soaked in 1 Cup Boiling Water (reserve soak water) 1/2 Cup Chopped Walnuts 3 Tbs.
While you can
use pretty much any combination of nuts in this
recipe, I highly recommend
using a combo of almonds and pecans because they compliment the
dates perfectly.
If you make sure to
use organic / healthy dark chocolate chips with minimal added sugar, and substitute
dates for the honey (adding the
dates to be pulsed before the almonds on their own, otherwise they might not get smooth enough), then you could consider this
recipe to be ENTIRELY healthy and sin - free.
If you're not
using a sweetened protein powder like Vega, you'll need additional sweetener for this
recipe like a couple pitted
dates or a splash of pure maple syrup.
