Government guidance to local authorities on family and friends care states that housing authorities and registered social landlords should have policies that
recognise the importance of the role performed
by family and friends carers, and that whenever possible family and friends carers living in social housing should be given appropriate
priority to move to more suitable accommodation if this will prevent the need for a child to become looked after.
However it needs to be
recognised as a tool that can be usefully employed to help achieve the goals which have been given urgent
priority by the government in the Indigenous policy arena.
