Surgically treatable forms of PSS are congenital — a defect at birth — so most of these patients» problems are
recognized at a relatively young age, through symptoms such as failure to grow, develop and / or thrive, showing neurologic
signs, or having elevated liver enzymes or
abnormal liver function («bile acids»).
