I do
recommend using fabric softener when you wash - I don't use fabric softener on our laundry regularly but it reallyhelps the slipcover wrinkle situation.
As for drying your baby swaddle blanket, I do not
recommend using fabric softener.

fabric softener build - up from diaper (and towels),
use the hottest wash water
recommended for your diapers, along with a clean rinsing, scent free detergent (Tide, All, and Purex are all fine, but Charlie's Soap and Rockin» Green are great if you can afford them) and 1/2 a cup (150 grams) of baking soda.
I
recommend not
using a liquid
fabric softener in the wash to prevent ruining the «absorbency factor».

Fabric Softener sheets in the dryer when drying diapers (or for clothes, for that matter)... if you lay one of these on top of your diapers, it can help ward off strong smells.

softeners, enzymes, and other
fabric enhancers.
