Part of the gag order on Open Whisper Systems was lifted after a court challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union, and
redacted versions of documents related to the information request were made public last week.
Two weeks after Trump blocked the full release of a classified Democratic memo, the House intelligence committee published
a redacted version of the document that aims to counter a narrative that Republicans on the committee have promoted for months — that the FBI and Justice Department conspired against Trump as they investigated his ties to Russia.

The city argues maintaining the
documents and making
redacted versions of them subject to Freedom
of Information requests would be a violation
of privacy.
But when I requested updated
versions of all five agreements from the SUNY Research Foundation the
documents I received were so heavily
redacted that information Cuomo had discussed at press conferences had been removed.
In the decision, which came in June, the judge, Gabriel Gorenstein, ordered NIH to turn over the waivers, but allowed the agency to protect other
documents, known as recusal lists, from public scrutiny (although they had to turn over
redacted versions of the lists during the course
of the litigation).

documents (as well as several other
documents related to how NIH manages conflicts
of interest), NIH refused to turn them over — not even
redacted versions — as they're required to do by law.
Typically a second
version of the
document containing the redactions is created and linked to the original with the intent
of only producing the
redacted version.
