I am in the middle of
redoing my kitchen floor and it is totally torn up.
I think people try to tackle one reno at a time, but
redoing the kitchen floor quickly snowballed into redoing the floors on the whole main level — we wanted the same finish throughout.

Interestingly, with all the progress I made last year on
redoing my
kitchen bit by bit, and although I still plan to
redo my
floors throughout with a warm wood - look similar in color to your
floors, Melissa, and I still plan to repaint my cabinets a creamy white, I'm finding that I can tolerate my old oak cabinets more now because the warm wood is needed (just not so much).
I'll post pics of the new
kitchen floor when we're done sealing it next week, and in the meantime, I'm going to call around and get some estimates on the next big
redo we'd like to save up for and tackle - a wall of windows!
Last year it was painting my
kitchen cabinets (talk about crazy), this year we're
redoing the fireplace (and just had hardwood
floors installed too).
My hubs is 61 — I am 58 and we still go strong on DIY — and we still make boo - boos — last year, we were
redoing (or should I say the hubs was
redoing) the
floor tile in our 2nd bathroom — the crazy nut tiled himself into the tub — I was in the
kitchen painting the texture he had just a couple of days before put on the walls (had wallpaper on it before) and I hear this feeble «Honey, can you go outside on the side of the house and get that tile from the ground under the window»... I went into the bathroom, saw him standing in the tub, and he explained that he got mad and threw the tile out the open window.
Surely, even if the
floors had been replaced, there would have been disappointment in that
kitchen, and that would have been
redone too!
new
flooring 4 & 5 will be used up in
redoing the
kitchen..
We tore up ugly brown carpeting, refinished some
floors and painted others, cobbled together a new banister from old pieces, made curtains and bed frames,
redid the
kitchen and the bathroom, and plastered everything in sight.
Of course I could say that the biggest way we've made our home a more enjoyable place to live is doing the big remodeling projects like
redoing the
kitchen or adding in hardwood
floors or painting everything white (still loving the walls, by the way).
I'm
redoing my main
floor — LR, DR,
Kitchen and Foyer.
We added a keeping room and
redid our
kitchen about three years ago and also have the manchurian walnut wood
flooring.
