I actually used a hybrid of user advice here and ended up with this layer combination (from bottom up): Layer 1 -
refried beans Layer 2 - Cream cheese, sour cream and taco seasoning...
Spoon about half of the chicken and sauce mixture evenly across the top of
the refried bean layer in the casserole dish.
I did a spicy
refried bean layer on the garbonzo bean crust, and then topped with assorted veggies — roasted corn, tomatoes, mushrooms, red pepper.
