regard to education technology and the traditional «sit and get» sessions can be valuable for those teachers who are not yet ready to become Connected Educators.

Educational Technologist focused on building right - for - organization
technology platforms
to create a flourishing, multifaceted
technology program; developing
education initiatives
regarding technology use and behavior for the entire school community - faculty, staff, students and parents; and continuing
to help individuals build their personal relationship with
technology.
These strategies involve 1) accurately informing the general public and the policy community
regarding the condition of schools, that is, their financing, their achievement, and the relationship between the two; 2) conducting empirical research aimed at understanding issues of productivity in
education; 3) informing policymakers and school managers
regarding means by which budget cuts can be made without eviscerating instructional effectiveness; and 4) solving challenges
to wider adoption of instructional
technologies.
They thus have no reason
to regard technology as a tool
to trim their workforce or
to rethink the ways in which they deliver
education.
Looking back at it 5 years later as it is appears as a «seminal article» in Contemporary Issues in
Technology and Teacher Education, I find myself reflecting about what has changed and what has remained the same with regard to technology in K - 12 schools and the challenges faced by teachers in realizing the full potential of technology in K - 12 c

The
technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge (TPACK) model offers a framework that teacher educators can use
to determine how
to help preservice special
education teachers learn
to make effective decisions
regarding integrating
technology into instruction (Lyublinskaya & Tournaki, 2014; Tournaki & Lyublinskaya, 2014).
Federal law in postsecondary
education must also be a robust source of support for local innovation, research, and implementation of strategies designed
to improve teacher and principal effectiveness and include: Evidence - based preparation and professional development; Evidence - based evaluation systems that include, in part, student performance; Alternative certification programs that meet workforce needs; State and school district flexibility
regarding credentials for small and / or rural schools, special
education programs, English learners and specialized programs such as science,
technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics; and Locally - determined compensation and teacher and principal assignment policies.
Large and rigorous randomized controlled trials of online
education tools for K - 12
education are difficult
to conduct and analyze, leaving school administrators with limited information
to consult when making important decisions
regarding education technology for their districts.

The AMTE NTLI Fellowship is awarded annually
to recognize exemplary research (one presentation with an accompanying original paper)
regarding appropriate
technology use in mathematics teacher
education.
Retaining an explicit emphasis in the new standards on including «opportunities for students
to study relationships among science,
technology, and society» (Hicks et al., 2014, Table 1) would open the door
to consideration of a set of issues that every future teacher ought
to be thinking about, for example, the power relationships enacted online as manifest through sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, and homophobia; the quality of the discourse and information that circulates there and the effects of rumor on reputation; notions of public and private in a digital age; cyber bullying and suicide; copyright and plagiarism; ethics and professional responsibilities related
to social media; and a host of other topics and questions that a critical media literacy approach could raise
regarding technology and citizenship
education.
The challenges with
regard to locating field placements that provide opportunities for rich
technology integration experiences for our preservice teachers potentially can be addressed by incorporating more video case modeling activities into our teacher
education courses or by developing and sharing additional
technology modeling activities with preservice teachers.
Findings also suggest the need
to make further investigation into the differentiation of materials, models of teacher
education, and professional development that might help different types of learners adjust
to the teaching profession and
to the kinds of broad - based changes that frequently occur within educational contexts, particularly as schools attempt
to make changes
to meet 21st century learning standards with
regard to technology.
Survey results show progressive stances toward
education reforms, particularly with
regard to school choice,
technology, teacher preparation, leadership, and collective bargaining.Following the release of the survey, AAE Executive Director Gary Beckner penned an opinion editorial about the changing teacher sentiments and the disconnect between teacher unions and the growing non-union teacher movement.
The findings in this
regard suggest that using interactive
technology to teach driver
education resulted in superior learning, consistent with recommendations by some traffic safety researchers for improving the effectiveness of online driver ed in general.
