«Public opinion

science at Drexel University in Philadelphia, said in a statement.

Regarding the specifics of synthetic biology,
Science Daily wrote in a Nov. 5, 2010 press release, «The University of Greenwich's School of Architecture & Construction is poised

«In the Columbia Basin, the

Mike's work, like that of previous award winners, is diverse, and includes pioneering and highly cited work in time series analysis (an elegant use of Thomson's multitaper spectral analysis approach
to detect spatiotemporal oscillations in the
climate record and methods for smoothing temporal data), decadal climate variability (the term «Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation» or «AMO» was coined by Mike in an interview with Science's Richard Kerr about a paper he had published with Tom Delworth of GFDL showing evidence in both climate model simulations and observational data for a 50 - 70 year oscillation in the climate system; significantly Mike also published work with Kerry Emanuel in 2006 showing that the AMO concept has been overstated as regards its role in 20th century tropical Atlantic SST changes, a finding recently reaffirmed by a study published in Nature), in showing how changes in radiative forcing from volcanoes can affect ENSO, in examining the role of solar variations in explaining the pattern of the Medieval Climate Anomaly and Little Ice Age, the relationship between the climate changes of past centuries and phenomena such as Atlantic tropical cyclones and global sea level, and even a bit of work in atmospheric chemistry (an analysis of beryllium - 7 measure

With a huge assist from the media such as the New York Times which continue
to play the false equivalency card with
regards to climate change and
science as a whole.
Rather than focussing on the important but inherently incremental developments in the
science behind the issue, the media would do us all a favor by maintaining a consistent message
regarding the underlying issue (i.e. human action is causing
climate change, and
climate change has the potential
to do great harm
to our way of life) and focus on how ordinary people can take steps in their own lives
to help address the problem in ways that don't require inordinate sacrifice.
Even among the public that accepts the
science of global
climate change, the dire circumstances we now face in this
regard are consistently downplayed, and the logical implications that follow from the scientific analysis of the necessity
to enact swift and aggressive measures
to combat
climate change are not followed through either intellectually or politically.
I hope we don't end - up regretting it too badly but by convincing ourselves that
science must not be self - falsifiable, as is the case with the IPCC's position
regarding scientific research into the causes of
climate change, I'm afraid we are destined
to do a lot of wheel spinning at great costs before we really make much headway in a truly conscious approach
to our world's sustaining systems.
Excerpts from the report, «Investigative Summary
Regarding Allegations that NASA Suppressed
Climate Change Science and Denied Media Access
to Dr. James E. Hansen, a NASA Scientist»:
This means we're putting a man who has written an entire book calling
climate change a hoax, who has used scripture
to refute
climate science, who truly seems
to believe that environmental groups are a «political machine» dedicated
to «misleading the American public
regarding their purely politically partisan agenda under the guise of environmental protection» and who has insisted, with a straight face, that CO2 is not a «real pollutant,» in charge of solving
climate change.
The grant
to Columbia Journalism School was directed at «public interest research into what the fossil fuel industry understood about the
science of
climate change and how they acted given that understanding both internally and
regarding the public,» but it did not target Exxon Mobil specifically, Wasserman said.»
After successfully passing a budget amendment back in May that basically forbids the Pentagon from acknowledging
climate science — despite the fact that the Department of Defense considers doing so
to be vital
to national security — his newest effort prohibits both the U.S. Department of Energy and the Army Corps of Engineers from spending «
to design, implement, administer or carry out specified assessments
regarding climate change.»
Holdren calls the proposal a «perversity» of the original intent leading
to a «kangaroo court» for ulterior - motivated stone - throwers intent on obfuscating consensus

climate change poses.

And all this is why I
regard the institutionalization of
climate tribalism such as evidenced by the recent AGU statement on

to the field of

As a means

SkS makes a positive contribution
to this by refuting
climate myths and addressing common misconceptions
regarding the
science of
climate change that stiffle productive debate of the key issues.
There is concern that the institutions of
science are so mired in advocacy on the topic of dangerous anthropogenic
climate change that the checks and balances in
science, particularly with
regard to minority perspectives, are broken.
The advertising statements
regarding the
science of
climate change also echo Conservative positions on specific scientific issues, as seen in each of the «myths» described, and declared
to be false, in the second FoS ad:
(A) advise the Secretaries on the state - of - the -
science regarding the impacts of
climate change and ocean acidification on natural resources and scientific strategies and mechanisms for protecting, restoring, and conserving natural resources
to enable them
to become more resilient, adapt
to, and withstand the impacts of

Betts says:» the authors seem
to assume that
climate science is entirely focussed on anthropogenic
climate change, and that natural variability is only researched as a supplementary issue in order
to support the conclusions
regarding anthropogenic influence.»
If Obama takes the position that legislation can be negotiated without
regard to whether its supporters believe in the scientific evidence or not, if he brings
to the bully pulpit no serious vocabulary on
climate change, no gravitas on
climate science, then how likely is it that he will lead government and society
to deal with the problem in a «comprehensive» way?
An independent study (Smith & Leiserowitz, 2012) found that among people rejecting the findings of
climate science, when asked
to name the first thing that came
to mind
regarding climate change, the most common answer was conspiratorial in nature.
It also says the companies «orchestrated a campaign of deception and denial

All these years Steve has maintained a very clear (and always polite) stance: he proposed himself
to audit some data, models, procedures and conclusions, while not defending or declaring any particular position about the claims made by

Please let me (very seriously and sincerely) that in
regard to climate -
change science, Judith Curry's sustained commitment
to open public discourse is among valuable contributions of any scientist, and that (as it seems
to me) the name «Curry» amply deserves
to be on the short list of prize committees around the world.
That the researcher responsible for the study is clearly not a «
climate change denier» makes the IPCC's credibility gap all the more significant, and it raises new questions
regarding the fundamental credibility of any claim coming from an organization which has relied on shaky
science to back its demand for the power
to take $ 76 trillion from the economies of the industrialized world and «redistribute» those funds for «green technologies» in the third world.
Curry, who has been invited several times by Republicans
to testify at
climate change hearings

to see raised in the discussions surrounding
climate engineering proposals: controversy around the legality of intentionally
changing the atmosphere (on any scale), suspicion of private interest in the name of the public good, confusion

to prevent global warming and
climate change that will be catastrophic
to human civilization, not
to mention the entire Earth's biosphere.

to mislead the Canadian public on the
science and policies
regarding climate change.
