So far only the General Optical Council has agreed to have its cases heard by the new body; other regulators,
in particular the Nursing and Midwifery Council, have indicated that to lose the power to decide fitness to practise cases would be,
in effect, to lose control of their
register (and of
course the fundamental purpose of all regulators is to keep a
register of suitably qualified registrants).
