I normally make this sandwich with
regular basil pesto but I thought to switch the ingredients a bit and it actually worked well.
1 tablespoon finely chopped Thai basil (also widely available at Asian markets; you can
substitute regular basil, but it won't have that distinctive anise - like flavor)
For years, I used
regular basil in my Thai recipes and finally I discovered Thai basil and it made such a difference.
You could skip the lemongrass and
use regular basil and a few jalapenos just as easily.
I couldn't find thai chilis and basil so I just used serano peppers and
regular basil.

Personally,
regular basil wouldn't do it for me, but there might be some nice varietals that would do.
