Bar a few notable exceptions, the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO) essentially limits the scope of legal aid in immigration
cases to matters
relating to
asylum and international protection and challenges to immigration detention.
As to actual substantive decisions, the number in civil
cases has remained exactly the same (87), those
relating to criminal matters have reduced (33 as against 43) and the number of successful
asylum cases has remained small though it has risen (from 26 to 54).
