By using a combination of crop growth, hydrological, carbon and nitrogen cycle models, researchers found that the estimated land suitable for bioenergy grasses — particularly Miscanthus, the most productive bioenergy crop — is limited, despite
its relatively high biomass productivity and low water consumption per unit of ethanol.

In this future scenario with a
high need for CDR, if the PUC had built the coal + CCS project, it could choose to retrofit the plant to a
biomass + CCS power plant capable of removing carbon from the atmosphere at a
relatively small incremental cost.
On top of that there's the methane and the volatile organic compounds that are unavoidably released from
relatively uncontrolled combustion of solid
biomass fuels — small quantities but
high global warming indexes.
Observational evidence suggests that some organic aerosol compounds from fossil fuels are
relatively weakly absorbing but do absorb solar radiation at some ultraviolet and visible wavelengths (e.g., Bond et al., 1999; Jacobson, 1999; Bond, 2001) although organic aerosol from
high - temperature combustion such as fossil fuel burning (Dubovik et al., 1998; Kirchstetter et al., 2004) appears less absorbing than from low - temperature combustion such as open
biomass burning.
