In addition to Daydream, the phone will also support Tango, Google's mobile augmented reality (AR) platform which is still in its infancy and has only made a commercial debut back in November with the
release of the Lenovo - made
Phab 2 Pro.
Tango was first
released in June 2014 and since then has only made it to a handful of devices, including just two commercial phones: Lenovo's
Phab 2 Pro in August 2016 and Asus» Zenfone AR this month.
Currently, no smartphone has this sensor, however, electronics manufacturer Lenovo has announced its
Phab 2 Pro smartphone due to be
released in the fall will have Tango.
Currently, Project Tango is only supported by the Lenovo
Phab 2 Pro and the recently
released Asus ZenFone AR.
Lenovo has stated that it will not deliver the Nougat update to the
PHAB 2 Pro, which was
released in the country back in January.
Even though AR technology is still in its infancy (there's only one Tango phone you can buy right now, the Lenovo
Phab Pro 2), more smartphones will be
released later in 2017 that will use some sort of augmented reality hardware and software.
The Lenovo
Phab 2 Pro was
released just recently, and it received quite mixed reviews, especially related to its design.
Released in November 2016, the Lenovo
Phab 2 Pro has probably scared off some potential buyers due to its hefty price for a phone that other than AR, it has a less impressive hardware configuration, at least when talking about the processor.
Tango never quite took off, but it wasn't a complete failure either, seeing
release in several devices like Lenovo's
Phab 2 Pro smartphone.
