Steam Machines still have a tentative
release with «later this year» being the last estimate, but if the
controllers do come out this fall, the boxes from the various companies shouldn't be too far behind.
An unnamed source revealed to PC Gamer that the
Steam Controllers - which previously did not have a
release date - are set for an October or November launch this year.
I bought the PC version via
Steam's digital
release, and also bought the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 console version, which includes a new Xbox 360 with CoD: MW2 logos and graphics, two wireless

At the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show CES Valve stated that partner companies
releasing Steam Machine can design individual
controllers but as
Valve posted an update that the

controller are slated for
release in 2015, a delay from the previous announcements of 2014.
In addition to an HD graphical update, the Windows PC
release of Little King's Story will allow for both XInput and DirectInput
controller support while incorporating various
Steam - specific features, including a set of newly conceived royal achievements.

released somewhat unofficially, especially after Valve ended up redesigning its
controller, and there weren't clear reasons to use
Steam OS instead of Windows or another flavor of Linux.
Regardless, the
controller still probably isn't for every game and a mouse / keyboard combo may still be your go - to but the option to pick up a nice
Steam Controller is still appealing and will no doubt still be a hot ticket when it
releases later this year with the
Steam Machines and
Steam OS.
I can still remember the clamor and speculation the day Valve first announced it was not only producing its own operating system based on Linux and a line of gaming PCs - called
Steam Machines - but would
release its own
controller as well.
Valve (arguably the king of all things PC gaming), is on track to
release a new
controller for its
Steam Machine platform that directly mimics the actions of a mouse using two innovatively designed trackpads.
When Valve finally gives the greenlight for companies to
release their
steam machines, they're going to come out fully swinging: new
controller (of course), Half Life 3, Team Fortress 3, Portal 3, Left 4 Dead 3, Dota 3, new Counter Strike, and quite possibly their own VR gear.
Valve has also confirmed that they'll be speaking with manufacturers about creating their own
