on view in this century spanning showcase.
«Claire Falkenstein: Matter in Motion» explodes this narrow
view with nearly 50 works, introducing a relentless exploration of abstraction in early paintings
on canvas and also curved perforated aluminum;
sculptures of wood and glazed ceramics; and one fantastic mixed - media
relief.
The 63 large - format paintings,
reliefs,
sculptures, and models
on view fully represent each phase of Stella's career, from his work prior to the Black Paintings, to the Irregular Polygons, to the first metal
reliefs, to the architectonic designs.
The exhibition brings together more than 100 works created by more than 20 artists from France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain and the United States from the «20s to the «50s, rebalancing the traditional
views about Surrealist
sculpture by placing equal emphasis
on organic abstraction which originated in the whimsical
reliefs of Jean Arp, and the of found - object assemblage, which originated in the Assisted Readymades of Marcel Duchamp and became a surrealist passion.

Among these works are Cindy Sherman's Untitled Film Still # 19, two early silhouette collages by Kara Walker, a painting by Mickalene Thomas, neon work by Tracey Emin, digital animation by Jennifer Steinkamp, wall
relief by Teresita Fernandez and woven trompe l'oeil
sculpture by Miami artist Frances Trombly, all of which will be
on view in the NSU Art Museum exhibition.
Edwards» manipulation of industrial materials — and their cultural connotations — is emphasized with a selection of installations, wall
reliefs, and free - standing steel
sculptures on view.
Works
on view include the artist's plaster bas -
reliefs, terracotta «Teatrini» (Little Theaters), and signature brass
sculptures.

sculptures by Ellsworth Kelly (b. 1923), Bruce Naumann (b. 1941), John Baldessari (b. 1931), Julie Mehretu (b. 1970), Ken Price (1935 — 2012), and Susan Rothenberg (b. 1945) are presently
on view through February 7 in the exhibition, The Serial Impulse at Gemini G.E.L.. Also given at this meeting was a superb collection of 60
relief prints and three artist books by Max Weber (1881 — 1961) from Jack and Margrit Vanderryn.
