As far as dividend stock investing is concerned I would not
rely on any particular stock too much.
The idea with index funds, however, is that you don't
rely on any particular stock going up in value; instead you just rely on the aggregate of all the funds in the index going up.

rely on most often when you are looking at
stocks?
You are only
relying on one - year to forecast into perpetuity for the dividend income stream of a
particular stock.
[btw I can only tell they're genuinely interesting from reading the annual report — which is why I
rely so little
on stock - screeners, they lack that
particular feature..!].
