Search is a unique and
remarkable little film that was made with a lot of passion.
Breathlessly paced and with bright colors amid an impoverished setting, Slumdog Millionaire is that
remarkable little film find we've been waiting for all year.

To the
film's credit, these facts are conveyed with a
remarkable of degree of restraint though the fact that you actually see very
little of this shocking mayhem doesn't make you feel any less sullied and violated for the mere idea of these crimes having penetrated your consciousness.

films remained unscreened and undistributed in America, so with MOMA's bigger series recently ending, it's time again to encourage distributors like the Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, and Arrow Video to bring out more of the director's masterpieces, both for critical reconsideration and for those whom the veteran filmmaker will be a major new discovery.
Unlike The Silent Revolution, The Captain's narrative focus is not on the victims (who eventually become victors) of history but the perpetrators — a true rarity in the history of German cinema that is made even more
remarkable by the fact that the
film does not concern itself with the famous culprits (as does Oliver Hirschbiegel's Der Untergang [Downfall, 2004]-RRB- but, rather, with the «unknown» wrongdoers, that is, the «
little guys» who, once afforded the opportunity, displayed the same murderous tendencies than their more famous leaders.
This is a
remarkable film in many ways - angry, visceral, brimming with testosterone and not a
little self - mythologising (Mullan describes his gang membership as «I was a total tourist»)- and has touches of Taxi Driver and Ken Loach about it.
Nonetheless 3 WOMEN remains a
remarkable, still - unsung, largely unloved and marvelously detailed and orchestrated motion picture experience, the likes of which I do not believe ANYBODY has ever come into contact with before or since and I am both pleased and gratified that it shall forever remain available on movie shelves, the internet or archival libraries for the potential enlightenment of future
film enthusiasts both brave and open - minded enough to give this quiet, magnificent
little film a try.
