Apropos of my
remarks below, a reader writes: It seems to me that you're taking his
quote about the politicization out of context,
first of all.
Despite the suggestion that Samantha Cameron was the author of the
quote, «There is such a thing as society, it's just not the state», it was actually Oliver Letwin who
first delivered the
remark that encapsulates Cameronism.
So is his
remark, «Human beings, in their thinking, feeling and acting are not free but just as causally bound as the stars in their motion», which reduces logic and mathematics to causal effects of physical forces, and his
first quote to «As far as the laws of physics refer to physical reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to physical reality.»
To an educated man it is an annoyance to find his author warning him that something written long ago, and
quoted every day almost ever since, is not an original
remark now
first struck out.
