Put the crib mattress down to the lowest possible level so baby can't get out of the crib and
remove any bumper pads or toys the baby can stand on to get out of the crib.
Often, parents do not
remove the bumper pads once baby can stand up in the crib.
Once your child is able to climb out of his crib (and you have already lowered the mattress and
removed the bumper pads), it is time to move him into a toddler bed.
When the little one starts climbing, you should
remove the bumper pad.

The AAP has also long warned that crib
bumper pads should be
removed once your baby begins to stand.
On their site they write: «
Remove pillows, pillow - like
bumper pads, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys, and other soft products from the crib.»
Remove all soft bedding and other soft items from the sleep area, including pillows, blankets, quilts,
bumper pads and stuffed animals and toys, before placing the baby to sleep.
Some major children's safety organizations have recently suggested that parents and child care providers should
remove crib
bumper pads from baby cribs.
Consider leaving
bumper pads off the crib, but if you do use them, make sure they fit all around the crib, are secured in place, and
remove them once your baby can stand.
Remove plush toys, pillows and blankets before bedtime and avoid using crib
bumpers /
padding.
To delay that possibility,
remove any «climbing aids» such as
bumper pads, pillows or toys, and lower the mattress to the lowest possible position within the crib.
An optional
padded bumper can be
removed and stored if not needed.
There's a removable center
pad that can be machine - washed and the outer
bumper can be
removed as well.
Bumper pads need at least six snaps or tie straps, with any excess straps
removed.
