Three state legislators Thursday called on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to extend the Jan. 31 SAFE Act deadline for
renewing pistol permits that are more than five years old.
WHEREAS, there will be significant financial and time impact to the law - abiding gun owners who will now have to
renew their pistol permits every 5 years at a cost, and significant financial and time impact to the Counties if they are mandated to become responsible for the 5 year re-certification process; and
County supervisors followed the lead of others around upstate New York who have requested that State Police not use county letterheads or seals when sending out paperwork to handgun owners to
renew their pistol permits.
