In the
repeated phrase «yet have you not
returned unto me» Amos makes it clear that the very catastrophe which Yahweh
visits upon his people is itself an expression of his love and faithfulness, since out of this negative action he seeks to bring about a reconciliation
with prideful rebellious Israel.
