I'm thoughtful about the types of
learning I ask
students to self -
report on, and the process requires auditing.
The NEPC
report paints a dismal picture of
student learning at K12 - operated schools, but the fatal flaw of the
report is that the measures of «performance» it employs are based primarily
on outcomes such as test scores that may reveal more about
student background than about the quality of the school, and
on inappropriate comparisons between virtual schools and all schools in the same state.

report suggests that quicker progress was related to
students spending more time
on homework, which is related to the increased enjoyment of using interactive and video resources, as well as increased engagement with their own
learning.
As soon as the
Report Card is turned into a test in which a teacher
learns not that a
student is having trouble making friends but rather that the
student is at the 18th percentile for the district in terms of sociability; or not that four particular
students in her class are frequently late or absent but rather that the classroom is at the 40th percentile
