To avoid underreporting ADHD, we calculated rates in 2 ways: in the conventional manner (requiring that the subject report that symptoms were present before the age of 7 years) and counting the disorder as present regardless of
the reported age of onset, as long as the duration criterion was met.

Twenty - nine percent
of children 2 to 3 years
of age have a television in their bedroom, and 30 %
of parents have
reported that watching a television program enabled their children to fall asleep.3 Although parents perceive a televised program to be a calming sleep aid, some programs actually increase bedtime resistance, delay the
onset of sleep, cause anxiety about falling asleep, and shorten sleep duration.41 Specifically, in children younger than 3 years, television viewing is associated with irregular sleep schedules.42 Poor sleep habits have adverse effects on mood, behavior, and learning.

Hereditary cataracts

Most temporally primary (based on retrospective

of subsequent suicidal behaviors in bivariate models.
Discrete - time survival analysis, with person - year the unit
of analysis and a logistic link function, was used to examine associations
of temporally primary (based on retrospective
age - at -
onset reports) mental disorders and subsequent first
onset of suicidality.29 Time was modeled as a separate dummy predictor variable for each year
of life up to
age at interview or
age at
onset of the outcome, whichever came first.

Scoring programs for the CAPA and YAPA, written in SAS, 41 combined information about the date
of onset, duration, and intensity
of each symptom to create diagnoses according to the DSM - IV.29 With the exception
of attention - deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), for which only parental
reports were counted, a symptom was counted as present if it was
reported by either the parent or the child until
age 16 years or by the young adult at
ages 19 and 21 years, as is standard clinical practice.
Several recent studies have
reported on the NCS - A design, 12,13 measures, 14,15 the lifetime and 12 - month prevalence
of mental disorders,16 - 18 and 12 - month prevalence and treatment
of suicidal behaviors.19 Here, we present new data on lifetime prevalence and
age at
onset of suicidal behaviors, as well as information on correlations with temporally primary mental disorders and treatment.
Improving the accuracy

age of onset reports in the US National Comorbidity Survey
The purpose
of the current
report is to present nationally representative estimates
of lifetime prevalence and
age -
of -
onset distributions
of the DSM - IV disorders assessed in the recently completed National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS - R).1 While the Epidemiological Catchment Area Study2 and the baseline National Comorbidity Survey (NCS) 3 both
reported high lifetime prevalence and generally early
age -
of -
onset distributions
of most DSM - III (NCS) and DSM - III - R (NCS - R) disorders, it is not clear whether similar results will hold for DSM - IV disorders because
of the greater emphasis on clinically significant distress and impairment in DSM - IV than in earlier editions.

of US adolescents 10 to 14 years
of age reported full R - rated movie restrictions, which is consistent with earlier regional

onset, we found that adolescents with lower levels
of sensation seeking27 and those who
reported R - rated movie restrictions were at lower risk for trying smoking.18, — , 23 The results also revealed negative associations between adolescents» levels
of sensation seeking and later R - rated movie restrictions, which indicates that sensation - seeking adolescents are at higher risk for starting to smoke not only directly but also indirectly through changes in parenting.

of cases was too small for powerful analysis
of OCD.
