For rates of past - year depressed mood and suicidality, over one quarter of U.S. adolescents
reported depressed mood, almost 20 percent experienced serious suicidal thoughts, and 8 percent had attempted suicide.
In a study of 1,979 overweight and obese adults in the UK, people who lost 5 % or more of their initial body weight over four years showed significant changes in markers of physical health, but were more likely to
report depressed mood than those who stayed within 5 % of their original weight.

depressed mood and 70 per cent said they found their job stressful.
The group that experienced
mood symptoms was more explosive, out of control, physically and verbally violent and
depressed than the group that experienced memory and thinking deficits, with family members
reporting that 73 percent of those in the first group were «explosive,» compared to 27 percent in the second group.
«There is no doubt that mefloquine does cause more sleeplessness, abnormal dreams, anxiety and
depressed mood than the alternatives» says Dr Tickell - Painter, «but the review clarifies that these are symptoms
reported by people taking mefloquine and not formal psychiatric diagnoses.
Several postmortem studies
report the presence of inflammatory markers in the brains of
depressed or
mood - disordered patients.
In 2009, the FDA noted that both varenicline and bupropion have been associated with «
reports of changes in behavior such as hostility, agitation,
depressed mood, and suicidal thoughts or actions.»
Psychological control was associated with elevated
depressed mood in adolescents, consistent with research
reported by Barber and colleagues (2005).
Several smaller studies have investigated the relationship of paternal and child mental health, and they have
reported related findings among children of different ages than those in the study
reported in this article.14, — , 21 One study found an association between paternal depression and excessive infant crying.45 Another study found that children aged 9 to 24 months with
depressed fathers are more likely to show speech and language delays, 19,21 whereas another study
reported that children aged 2 years with
depressed fathers tended to be less compliant with parental guidance.17 Among children aged 4 to 6 years, paternal depression has been found to be associated with increases in problems with prosocial behaviors and peer problems.15 Only 1 other study we are aware of was population based; it was from England and investigated related issues among much younger children, 23 demonstrating that both maternal and paternal depressive symptoms predicted increased child
mood and emotional problems at 6 and 24 months of age.
