Despite small clinical studies that have
reported efficacy of the approach, the mechanism of action is poorly understood.

Although professional lactation support can improve the duration
of overall breast feeding, its effect in improving exclusive breast feeding is unclear.11 18 22 Thus far, studies that
report improvement
of rates
of exclusive breastfeeding have involved mainly community based peer counselling strategies.23 24 25 Even then, a randomised trial in the UK recently cast doubt on the
efficacy of this
approach.26 There are current recommendations from NICE for the UK - wide implementation
of the baby friendly initiative.4 5 6 The 2006 NICE costing
report on routine postnatal care
of women and their babies estimates that efforts to improve rates
of breast feeding will result in substantial cost savings for the NHS.6
Some school districts have
reported decreases in court referrals after implementation
of SRO programs, especially for minority students, but there is little rigorous evidence on the
efficacy of this
approach.
An IPPR
report, «Freedom's Orphans», published in 2006 described the way that the
efficacy of low SES communities was depressed, and how a particular
approach to education both inside and outside
of the classroom could impact on this.
Second, even if the
reported variance did reflect the causal effects
of schools, the
approach confuses prevalence with
efficacy.
It may be, as Michael Hunter Schwartz argued at this conference, that the authors
of the Carnegie
Report exaggerated the
efficacy of this
approach for this generation
of students.18 It is doubtful that they really do play along with the classroom conversation instead
of doing some form
of multitasking aided by the Internet.
Hopefully Motorola's upcoming fitness - focused Moto 360 Sport will
approach the market with more finesse, but as
of now the Moto 360 is little more than a glorified step tracker, a metric whose
efficacy reported in isolation has been discounted countless times.
We have previously
reported the immediate effects
of this psychosocial family - based intervention on independently observed aspects
of the caregiving environment and child social competence during unfamiliar peer entry, including
approach and regulatory behaviors.30 Thus, we have demonstrated the
efficacy of the intervention in altering the targeted risk factors.

report that by attempting to program or manualize treatment psychotherapists may actually be reducing
efficacy, although the unstructured
approach of many psychotherapists can not appeal to patients motived to solve their difficulties through the application
of specific techniques different from their past «mistakes.»
