no reported risks to human health and the environment, it can continue to be released or placed on the market without further approval.

In 1992, in response
to epidemiologic
reports from Europe and Australia, the AAP recommended that infants be placed for sleep in a nonprone position as a strategy for reducing the
risk of SIDS.9 The «Back

Human Development as a joint effort of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration, the AAP, the SIDS Alliance (now First Candle), and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs.10 The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and
Human Development began conducting national surveys of infant care practices
to evaluate the implementation of the AAP recommendation.
A 2014
report to the UK Council for Science and Technology, for instance, concluded that «it is not appropriate

Local pressures, in particular overfishing, destructive fishing, and pollution from nearby land - based
human activity, are paramount, but global warming has caused increased bleaching and ocean acidification, which makes it harder for corals

The delicate balance between the
human microbiome and the development of psychopathologies is particularly interesting given the ease with which the microbiome can be altered by external factors, such as diet, 23 exposure
to antimicrobials24, 25 or disrupted sleep patterns.26 For example, a link between antibiotic exposure and altered brain function is well evidenced by the psychiatric side - effects of antibiotics, which range from anxiety and panic
to major depression, psychosis and delirium.1 A recent large population study
reported that treatment with a single antibiotic course was associated with an increased
risk for depression and anxiety, rising with multiple exposures.27 Bercik et al. 28 showed that oral administration of non-absorbable antimicrobials transiently altered the composition of the gut microbiota in adult mice and increased exploratory behaviour and hippocampal expression of brain - derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), while intraperitoneal administration had no effect on behaviour.

The National Academies, fulfilling a congressional request, have issued a trio of invaluable
reports affirming the scientific case for a growing and largely harmful
human influence on climate; proposing a path and strategies for curbing American emissions of heat - trapping gases; and urging the country
to work
to cut
risks attending life with no new «normal» climate patterns or coastlines.
The

to the
human tendency
to give outsize importance
to immediate costs even when confronted with evidence of big long - term
risks.
But I go on
to say that my
reporting on behavioral research explaining
human risk reactions and responses (or the lack thereof) has been the most unnerving experience of all:

Any useful summary of knowledge on the causes and consequences of climate change and possible responses would have
to include a hard look at the substantial (and sobering) body of work on what shapes
human behavior: how people absorb or ignore scientific information — including the climate panel's own
reports — and what roadblocks in
human behavior await the menu of possible policy options for limiting climate - related
risks.
The clearest
risks lie overseas, particularly in poor countries with weak public health agencies, according
to a draft government
report on climate impacts on
human health and welfare, done at the request of President Bush.
His piece also reflects another important aspect of the
report — its effort
to place greenhouse - driven global warming among a host of factors shaping
risks to humans and their planet:
Overall, the panel's
reports have never focused much on research examining how
humans respond (or fail
to respond)
to certain kinds of
risk, particularly «super wicked» problems such global warming, which is imbued with persistent uncertainty on key points (the pace of sea - level rise, the extent of warming from a certain buildup of greenhouse gases), dispersed and delayed
risks, and a variegated menu of possible responses.

He is
reported to have gone from the sublime, back in June, when he said «climate change is occurring, is caused largely by
human activities and poses significant
risks»,
to the ridiculous, all in the space of a few short weeks.
In its two
reports, ExxonMobil finally acknowledges that
human activities have contributed
to the increased concentrations of greenhouse gases and that this accumulation «poses
risks that may prove significant for society and ecosystems.»
So, each IPCC
Report can be — and should be — understood
to be presentation of evidence, arguments, and justification for that presumption of a «
risk of
human - induced climate change» (i.e. a
risk of AGW) and the need for «options for adaptation and mitigation».

«Fukushima radiation from Japan's stricken plant detected across UK»,

Not only does the
report clearly not do what it claims
to do, and not only is this another instance of Big Insurance joining forces with Big Environment
to whip up alarm (not
to mention premiums) about environmental
risks (Allianz join Munich Re, RMS and Catlin), but, by ranking countries in terms of energy — rather than CO2 — production, it also supports our suggestion that Environmentalism has less
to do with saving the planet than it does with reining in
human aspirations.
