Before, a majority
of the
members of this council were judges chosen from assemblies
representing various levels
of the
judiciary.
CILEx
members are the most diverse group
of lawyers in the UK (three - quarters are women, and one third
of students are BAME), yet are the least
represented group among the
judiciary.
The National Self -
Represented Litigants Project (NSRLP)
of which I am the Director has been extremely concerned — and made this concern clear — for many years about the process for reviewing and adjudicating complaints brought against a
member of the
judiciary by a
member of the public.
Also in the area
of support for those
representing themselves in court, Pro Bono Law Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association — Alberta Branch, and
members of the
judiciary from the Alberta Courts, worked together to produce four educational videos which provide unrepresented claimants with short, easy to understand instructions about basic courtroom procedures, processes, etiquette and other useful information.
For some
members of the
judiciary, costs lawyers and draftsmen, the ACL bill will
represent their introduction to the more advanced features
of Excel.
