No one has
required that all public schools stop having
students listen to, if not recite, the Pledge.
In other words, any school
requiring students to listen to daily Bible readings or
to recite the Lord's Prayer or other officially endorsed prayers is in violation of the First Amendment
to the Constitution and the first section of the Fourteenth Amendment.

required to demonstrate their mastery of the English language by speaking and

students to build content knowledge, as

to hear texts read aloud because the texts they can read for themselves in early grades rarely contain as much content as books they can
