Unless one bleaches the debate of its living doctrinal substance — and the Rav explicitly states that
requiring men of faith to bracket their deepest experiences constitutes unacceptable censorship — it inevitably raises questions about atonement, justification, faith and works, and so on.

Faith requires stepping out into that which can not be known by
man without the help
of God.
The non-religious
man of the present does not
require first to be led to religion, transformed into a religious
man, in order then to take a second step along this way to come to the Christian
faith.
Given the sufficiency
of Scripture, «whatsoever is not read therein,» declares Article VI
of the Thirty - nine Articles, «nor may be proved thereby, is not to be
required of any
man, that it should be believed as an article

A crisis in authority suggests the possibility that our churches have lost the will and lack the
men and women with those powers

require acceptance
of some variety
of personal persistence as a pre-requisite for a welcome into the Christian community which is grounded on that
faith in God in Jesus Christ which the community exists to make available to
men and women in every age.
To take up at once such an article, may be the act
of a vigorous
faith, but it may also be the act
of a
man who will believe anything because he believes nothing, and is ready to profess whatever his ecclesiastical, that is his political, party
