«The composition and chemistry of ice giant atmospheres provides clues about their formation, evolution and current state,» explained a research paper referenced as part of NASA's Outer Planets Assessment Group Meeting in Laurel, Maryland.

On the theoretical front, these discoveries have triggered extensive research on the formation, dynamical evolution, interior dynamics, and atmospheric characteristics of extrasolar habitable planets.

The research activity of our group «Interstellar Medium: star and planet formation» is focused in the early stages of the star and planet formation process, with special emphasis on the role of magnetic field at different scales.

This enabled the research team to estimate precisely the mass of the dust and discuss the possibility of planet formation in the disk.

The findings, which appear in the Dec. 1 edition of the journal Nature, are the first direct evidence of what the ancient atmosphere of the planet was like soon after its formation and directly challenge years of research on the type of atmosphere out of which life arose on the planet.

It is reasonable to expect that the research by space scientists using data from the Webb will produce significant advances in understanding the formation and evolution of the oldest stars in our universe, the life cycles of stars, the environmental composition of different exoplanets, and possibilities for living systems on planets circling other stars.
