The traditional methods used in materials science analysis, like high - powered electron microscopy and spectroscopy, do not combine chemical insights with the spatial resolution of IR imaging, the
researchers said, so they can only provide
average chemical
measurements.
As a result, the annual layers
averaged about 0.4 millimeters thick — wide enough for the
researchers to get seven to eight samples per layer, which is slightly better than one
measurement every two months.
«If we assume that a person has an
average follicular density of 27 follicles per cm2 (for instance, on areas such as the arms and thighs), an active area of 2 — 6 mm2 maximizes the probability of hitting a single follicle in a randomly positioned, untargeted
measurement,» say the
researchers.
When the
researchers compared those numbers, they found that ambulatory blood pressure — an
average of all
measurements taking while they were awake — tended to be higher than their in - office
averages, not lower.
For this reason, a number of
researchers have suggested that it should be possible to estimate the long term Sea Surface Temperature trends for a given area by
averaging together all the available
measurements from different voyages that went through that area in a given month.
