Although ice extent at the end of June 2010 was slightly lower than that observed in 2007 (
Figure 2), the persistence of the Arctic Dipole Anomaly (DA) throughout the summer of 2007
resulted in an
acceleration of ice loss in July that led to the record low ice extent in September 2007.
