by bots, humans still have better quality and more engaging tweets — tweets
by human accounts receive on average 19 times more likes and 10 times more
retweets than tweets
by bot accounts.
With the help of these
bots, the number of times the message is
retweeted quickly grows exponentially until it is picked up
by human account users who continue to disseminate it.
According to a report
by the New York Times,
bot peddlers have done brisk business on the site, setting up thousands upon thousands of fake accounts to follow and
retweet paying customers, sometimes even stealing identities to do it.
