Once again, Friedberg and Seltzer prove they didn't even try (I'm almost certain I said the same thing about these guys in
my review of Disaster Movie).

Disaster Artist has gotten much better
reviews than the «Citizen Kane
of bad
movies» that is its subject — but how does it play if you've never seen The Room?
That is, until I talked to our own Zach Gayne and then read his
review out
of SXSW, which concluded: «The
Disaster Artist is not only far funnier than you might expect, it's also far deeper than a film about the worst
movie of the 21st century has any right to be.»

movie, The
Disaster Artist, have both been released, following last night's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

There's nothing there that makes Shanghai look like a
disaster, and in fact the many
reviews from releases
of the film outside the US suggest that Shanghai is fine — not a terrific
movie, not a horrible one.
But The AV Club,
reviewing off
of the Toronto cut
of the film (The
Disaster Artist premiered at SXSW as a «Work in Progress»), was less than impressed, saying it's «just barely a
movie.»
They stagger through the early
reviews, then the claws come out for
Disaster Movie, the most accurately named film
of the year.
