I think the only real argument I could make on how it benefits Amazon is that it might lend greater credibility to indie authors in the KDP program since it would get them more credible reviews.
Author's complain too loud about fake reviews; Amazon starts removing real ones.
I have a couple additional rules I impose... I try to be honest, but give enough detail that a person with different tastes can see where TASTE is the real issue... I am stingy with 5s, but also will skip posting a review rather than giving a less established author anything lower than a 3.
Almost any author who is trying to sell books these days has run into the trolls and sock puppets who seem to spend their days leaving nasty or idiotic reviews (for books they obviously haven't read) for no particular purpose except to wield the power they probably don't have in their real lives.

Because often, I finish an indie book and I read something like «we indie authors rely on reviews / on our newsletter, so please leave a review / subscribe to my newsletter», and that to me is not a real incentive.
