Cars tell you a whole lot about how well they're engineered and put together when they're skidding through corners, braking at threshold, and
revving near redline for several laps.
Not exact matches
It's far from the smoothest V - 6 around, particularly at the upper
rev ranges — gets pretty gritty
near its 7,500 - rpm
redline — but it pulls hard enough to scoot the Z from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.0 seconds or perhaps even less.
This is a massive benefit: The car shotguns out of corners, and while it's delighted to scream all day
near its
redline, sizzling
revs aren't necessary to keep up a blistering pace.
There is no crescendo up
near the
redline, just one urgent and omnipotent surge of
revs accompanied by a flat and rather nondescript blare of exhaust.
It makes you feel alive and the adrenaline rushes through your veins with the same ferocity as the V10
revs to its
near 9000rpm
redline.
Peak torque is available from just 1,500 rpm to give it good spring off the line and power remains strong through the middle of the
rev range to taper off slightly
near redline.
But thankful to Porsche for still making high -
revving naturally - aspirated engines, with peak hp
near the
redline.
It is very quiet from inside the cabin around the down at city driving speeds as the
revs are kept very low thanks to the high torque — you only notice a loud diesel engine noise at higher RPMs
nearer to the
redline.
